MRG | Media Relations Group, LLC | What We Do

Construction | FDOT District Six NW 25th Street Construction Project (East Phase)

The Purpose:

The NW 25th Street Construction Project is meant to improve the flow of traffic and facilitate the movement of cargo in and out of the cargo facilities at Miami International Airport (MIA).

The Project:

The project involves the roadway reconstruction of NW 25th Street from the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) to NW 67th Avenue as well as the construction of a viaduct. The reconstruction of NW 25th Street includes the widening of the roadway by adding an additional westbound lane from the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) to just west of NW 70th Avenue. The viaduct, elevated about 30 feet, will be mainly situated along the north side of NW 25th Street. It will have one eastbound and one westbound lane from just east of the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) to NW 68th Avenue where it curves southward ending at NW 22nd Street, the area known as MIA’s West Cargo Area. The project began in 2007 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2011 at a cost of $117 million.

The Public:

In order to best serve the needs of the affected shareholders, Media Relations Group, LLC, provided an on-site Public Information Officer to address the day-to-day concerns of the surrounding business community as well as elected and agency officials. The corridor serves major industries such as flower importers, produce importers, live animal importers as well as exporters of many commodities. These businesses rely on the NW 25th Street corridor, which serves as the main thoroughfare to MIA Cargo Facilities, to tender or pick up their cargo at the MIA facilities on a timely basis. MRG formed working groups with corridor stakeholders as well as groups such as the Association of Floral Importers of Florida (AFIF), Florida Custom Brokers and Forwarders Association (FCBF), MIA Marketing Office and UPS as well as many others. MRG has met regularly with these and other stakeholders as well as sent communications to more than 700 area businesses to keep them informed of project milestones. This proactive approach has minimized disruptions and negative impacts to businesses surrounding this very important corridor, allowing the contractor and CEI to stay ahead of the project schedule. The project is expected to be delivered ahead of schedule.
